What happens to those of us who are too nearsighted for LASIK or PRK eye surgery (Photorefractive Keratectomy)? If you are not considered a good candidate for laser eye surgery, want to avoid major eye surgery, or don’t have time to recover from LASIK, ICL surgery may be your best choice for excellent vision. It was for me!

My Experience with Implantable Contact Lenses

Many years ago when LASIK was the rage, I visited not one, not two, but three laser eye surgeons to see about laser eye surgery and was told that my amount of nearsightedness and astigmatism was more than the laser could handle. I had what they called an extreme amount: my contacts lenses were -10.0. I retreated back into my contacts and resigned myself to being a slave to their care and maintenance. Years later I heard about ICL eye surgery. What’s THAT? It is the Verisyse Implantable Collamer Lens by a company called Starr Surgical. It is for people like me and anyone else whose corneas may be too thin for LASIK or PRK surgery.

The FDA approved Implantable Contact Lenses in Dec 2005. It really is amazing technology. The surgeon inserts the lens through a very small tube and can even remove it and replace it with another if your vision changes in the future. It’s very much like a regular contact lens but it’s permanent; you don’t have to remove it for cleaning or swimming. Better yet, it won’t pop out or slide around either like regular contact lenses and it’s nearly invisible.

No Laser Eye Surgery Means Minimal Recovery Time

I guessed that enough “guinea pigs” had gone before me, so I did it! The surgery took about 30 minutes. Thirty. Minutes. A local anesthesia was used and I was awake the whole time. I didn’t feel a thing. It wasn’t like what I heard about LASIK or PRK where you had to wait a day or two for good vision, I could see IMMEDIATELY. There was no discomfort and I was able to resume my life and return to work THE NEXT DAY.

ICL eye surgery changed my life and it can change yours too. If you have more questions on how you can get same day results with ICL, see a step-by-step guide of what to expect before, during and after your procedure or read our patient reviews.

If you were told that you are not a candidate for LASIK, I strongly urge you to schedule a consultation with Magruder Laser Vision and Dr. Magruder today to learn more about the amazing benefits of ICL surgery.
