Whole Cornea Imaging

Being a great LASIK candidate starts with ensuring your cornea is shaped properly.

Previously, we relied on examining the curvature, or “topography,” of the cornea’s front surface. Today, we can take 3-dimensional images of the entire cornea—similar to a CT scan. This allows us to see both the front and back surfaces of the cornea, detecting subtle irregularities and helping us make more accurate recommendations for who’s a good LASIK candidate – and who’s not.

Epithelial Thickness Mapping

This is a critical part of determining which procedure is best for you.

We’re able to image each individual layer within the cornea, including the top layer called the “epithelium.” Epithelial cells can hide underlying irregularities, so by mapping just this layer, we can detect early signs of keratoconus—a condition that may make LASIK unsuitable.

We were the first practice in Central Florida to offer epithelial thickness mapping, and we provide this innovative technology at all our locations.
