Before following in his father’s footsteps by becoming an ophthalmologist, Dr. Brock Magruder Jr. graduated from Trinity Preparatory School in 1976 and then Emory College with Honors in Chemistry in 1981. Dr. Magruder then went on to graduate from the Emory University School of Medicine in 1985. He continued his internship as well as his residency training at Emory. During this time, Dr. Magruder also served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Magruder, Jr. began performing cataract surgery in 1987. He returned to Orlando in 1989 to join his father in private practice. Dr. Brock Magruder, Jr. now works full time at Magruder Laser Vision specializing in LASIK eye surgery in addition to other refractive procedures.

At Magruder Laser Vision, Dr. Magruder brings the latest eye surgery technology to Central Florida. In 1996 he opened the first refractive surgery center in Central Florida. His was the first center in the United States to own the Autonomous Technologies Tracking Laser in 1999. Dr. Magruder was an FDA clinical investigator in 2001 for the Custom Cornea treatments. He followed up this laser, by investing in the latest FDA approved excimer laser, the Wavelight Allegretto in 2005. Always staying on the cutting edge, Dr. Magruder was the first Intralase iFS LASIK eye surgeon in Central Florida in 2011. This blade-free technique made LASIK eye surgery safer and produced superior results over using “the blade.”

Dr. Magruder is also on the cutting edge with the latest lenses and techniques for cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. In 2005 he began using the Verisyse implantable lens, following up in 2006 by offering Central Florida the first Starr Visian implantable contact lens. In 2012 Dr. Magruder brought the first LensAR cataract laser to Central Florida.

In addition to staying on top of the latest technology, Dr. Magruder initiated an ongoing eye mission program in the Dominican Republic in 2003. He leads a team that performs surgery and provides exams and glasses to those who would otherwise have no access to eye care. He also participates in similar trips to Belize, Haiti and assumed the responsibilities of a Cataract Mission in Jamaica. During these missions, Dr. Magruder’s wife Kathy accompanies him and works by his side.
